Continuing Certification Program (CCP) is a program that offers assurance to the public that the competency the Diplomate evidenced when awarded initial certification in Dermatology is maintained during continuing professional life. It is centered on educational and professional development and assesses the competence of physicians throughout their professional career.
Before 1991, dermatologists who passed the ABD Certification Exam after residency were granted lifetime certificates in dermatology (no expiration date). After 1991, time-limited certificates were issued, with renewal contingent upon fulfilling continuing certification requirements. While not required, some lifetime certificate holders voluntarily participate in the continuing certification program.
