The American Board of Dermatology (ABD) endorses the Standards for Continuing Certification approved by The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Board of Directors at their October meeting.
The new standards have been designed to guide the ABMS Member Boards in establishing continuing certification programs that help diplomates stay current in their specialty while providing hospitals, health systems, patients, and communities with a credential upon which they can continue to rely and depend. The standards were developed following recommendations from the Continuing Board Certification: Vision for the Future Commission (Commission) which met throughout 2018 to provide strategic guidance to the ABMS BOD and Member Boards.
The ABD executives, Board of Directors, and other Dermatology leaders who have participated in the development of these standards have been updating the ABD’s continuing certification program in anticipation of the new standards. In the coming months, ABD leaders will explore how Dermatology’s continuing certification program can evolve further, guided by the ABMS standards. The ABD will be seeking engagement from our diplomates and dermatology leadership on this evolving journey.
